Boris FX Optics is now available as a plugin for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and as a standalone application for macOS and Windows.

The Optics toolkit features over 150 filters and thousands of presets designed by VFX industry veterans to correct, enhance, and stylise images in the Adobe suite. In addition to its lens filters, film looks, colour, and masking tools, the suite now features 75 handpicked filters from Sapphire’s high-end VFX suite, giving photographers access to the same lens flares, glows, and lighting effects used in Hollywood productions.

Described by Boris as a "missing bridge between video and print design,” Optics is currently the only Photoshop plugin that specifically simulates optical camera filters with presets based on real-world diffusion filters. This includes diffusion filters such as Fog, Frost, Mist, Net, and Silk filters as well as colour filters such as Color Gradient, Color Spot, ND Gradient, Photographic, Skin Tone and Sunset filters.

Diffusion filters were created based on real world optical diffusion filters. Colour filters were created by converting the spectral transmission curves to RGB values.

There are also almost 90 colour grading presets from Academy Award nominated movies including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, and Back to the Future.

On a more practical level, Optics masking tools replace backgrounds and isolate effects based on a variety of user defined parameters.
